Seun Kuti Slams WizKid FC, Says Legacy Earns Him $120, 000
Seun Kuti, the youngest son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, took to Instagram Live to deliver a blistering critique of Wizkid’s fanbase, popularly known as “Wizkid FC.”
The musician expressed his deep-seated frustration with the online community, demanding that they cease dragging his late father’s name into petty social media rivalries and toxic comparisons that undermine the Kuti family’s historical contributions.
Addressing the controversy surrounding his “Big Bird” nickname, Seun firmly rejected demands to stop using the title, asserting that his claim to it predates Wizkid’s “Biggest Bird” moniker.
He went a step further by accusing Wizkid’s management and associates, specifically mentioning DJ Tunez, of weaponizing the fanbase and failing to curb the blatant disrespect directed toward a cultural icon like Fela.
To underscore the unmatched weight of his father’s influence, Seun revealed that he recently received a payout of approximately $120,000 simply for being Fela Kuti’s son.
He used this financial milestone as a powerful rebuttal to critics, highlighting that even three decades after his passing, Fela’s monumental legacy continues to provide for his descendants in a way that modern pop success cannot easily replicate.
In his final remarks, the singer clarified that his grievances are primarily with “ignorant” and “uneducated” fans rather than Wizkid himself.
He urged the Nigerian music community to foster a culture of respect, arguing that fans should be able to celebrate their favorite contemporary artists without attempting to diminish the stature of the pioneers who laid the very foundation for the global success of Afrobeat today.
