NUPRC Activates 90 Days Plan to Boost oil Output

The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has launched a strategic 90-day action plan to rapidly increase the country’s oil production.

Commission Chief Executive, Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, announced the initiative during a stakeholder engagement in Lagos, emphasizing “quick-win” opportunities such as fast-tracking approvals for field development and well interventions.

The reform agenda is built on three key pillars: optimizing production and revenue, ensuring regulatory speed and predictability, and maintaining safe, sustainable operations.

By accelerating the time-to-first-oil and recovering volumes from shut-in assets, the commission aims to deliver early barrels to the market without adding extra financial burdens to operators.

This 90-day programme aligns with the broader goals of President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda. The administration is pushing for a significant production increase, targeting a jump from current levels to two million barrels per day (bpd) by 2027, with a long-term goal of reaching three million bpd by 2030.

To support these targets, the NUPRC is collaborating with the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) to eliminate regulatory bottlenecks. This synergy is intended to boost investor confidence and ensure that the oil industry, which remains the heartbeat of the Nigerian economy, continues to grow through transparency and digital innovation.
