Kwankwaso Didn’t Endorse Kano Gov’s Defection, Says NNPP

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has officially debunked reports claiming that its national leader, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, endorsed the rumoured defection of Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, to the APC.

The party described these claims as “wicked lies” and a blatant misrepresentation of Kwankwaso’s recent comments to his supporters.

The NNPP’s National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, clarified that Kwankwaso’s advice to supporters to sign documents if pressured by rival movements was meant to avoid victimization and defuse political tension.

He emphasized that these remarks were never intended as a blessing for the Governor or any party members to leave the NNPP.

The party spokesperson challenged those planning to defect to do so openly without using Kwankwaso’s name as a shield.

He characterized any move to the APC as a “cold betrayal” of the mandate given by the people of Kano, insisting that the party remains united despite the external pressure.

This clarification comes amid heightened political anxiety in Kano, marked by a heavy security presence around the Government House.

While rumors persist regarding Governor Yusuf’s political future, the NNPP maintains that its leadership has not authorized or supported any move to dismantle the party’s structure in the state.
