FERMA Seeks ₦189 Billion for Road Repairs in 2026 Budget

The Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) has proposed spending ₦189 billion on road maintenance, repairs and rehabilitation in its 2026 budget, as part of its broader ₦229 billion funding request.
The proposal, which was published on the Budget Office website, shows that roughly ₦191 billion is earmarked for capital projects, focusing on roads and bridges nationwide.
The remaining ₦38 billion is set aside for recurrent expenditure including personnel costs of ₦5 billion, of which ₦3.5 billion is dedicated to salaries. The agency has also allocated ₦385 million to settle existing liabilities.
FERMA detailed plans for several key projects across the country. For instance, ₦87 million has been proposed for rehabilitating the Old Enugu-Onitsha-Enugu Expressway, while ₦105 million is targeted at general maintenance of the Naram Bridge in Bauchi State.
The agency also set aside ₦47.8 million for upkeep of the Ijora Causeway-Iddo Terminus, and ₦122.9 million for repairs on the Lagos-Badagry-Seme Border dual carriageway. Other allocations include ₦47 million for the Maraban Jamaa-Heipan-Panyam Road, and ₦140 million for maintaining the Gumel-Maiharaji-Niger Republic Border Road in Jigawa State.
In addition to road projects, FERMA has included ₦210 million in the budget for the construction of schools in various locations within the Ibi/Wukari Federal Constituency in Taraba State.
The agency also added that proposed expenditures aim to ensure safer, more durable roads and improved infrastructure nationwide, noting that effective maintenance and timely rehabilitation were key to reducing transport challenges and boosting economic activities.
