Lagos Assembly Targets Stronger, People-oriented Legislations in 2026
The Lagos State House of Assembly has signalled its intention to prioritise people-centred legislation in 2026 as part of efforts to strengthen governance and fast-track socio-economic development across the state.
The assurance was given by the Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Security and Strategy, Mr Stephen Ogundipe, during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Lagos.
Ogundipe, who represents Oshodi-Isolo Constituency I, described the outgoing year as a productive and defining period for the Assembly, noting that lawmakers were poised to build on existing milestones under the leadership of Speaker Mudashiru Obasa.
According to him, the House has already mapped out its legislative agenda for the new year and is confident of outperforming its 2025 record through more impactful laws and oversight activities.
He highlighted several key bills passed in 2025, including the Lagos State Tenancy and Recovery of Premises Bill, the Local Government Administration Bill and the Lagos Electricity Bill, describing them as major interventions aimed at improving governance and service delivery.
The lawmaker stressed that the Assembly remained committed to its constitutional responsibilities and would continue to work closely with the executive arm of government to advance the state’s development agenda.
Ogundipe also called on residents to fulfil their civic obligations, particularly in the payment of taxes, noting that consistent revenue generation was crucial for government performance.
He commended Speaker Obasa for his leadership style and acknowledged the contribution of legislative staff, whom he said had demonstrated dedication and professionalism in the service of Lagos State.
