Former ArmyChief Begins Legal Battle to Clear Name Over Terrorism Financing Allegations

Former Chief of Army Staff, retired Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, has commenced legal steps to protect his reputation following allegations that linked him to terrorism financing.
The action was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja by a former Director of Army Public Relations, retired Brigadier General Sani Usman.
According to the statement, the claims were made by a retired major general during a broadcast interview and were subsequently circulated by some media platforms.
Usman said Yahaya, through his legal team led by Mohammed Ndayako, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), issued formal demand notices to the individuals and media organisations involved.
The notices, dated December 17, 2025, reportedly gave the recipients 72 hours to retract the allegations, publish unconditional public apologies, and stop further circulation of the claims.
The statement warned that failure to comply with the demands would result in legal action, describing the allegations as false, malicious, and capable of eroding public confidence in national institutions.
Yahaya was quoted as saying that the move was aimed not only at defending his personal integrity but also at upholding professionalism, accountability and truth, stressing that deliberate falsehoods would not be allowed to go unchallenged.
