AA Rano Launches Unmanned Fuel Stations

AA Rano Nigeria, a major player in the country’s downstream petroleum sector, has officially launched Nigeria’s first fully automated and unmanned fuel stations. This project represents a major shift toward the digital transformation of energy retail in the country.
The initiative was developed in a strategic partnership with Petrosoft Limited, a Nigerian technology firm specializing in oil and gas management systems.
Together, they aim to modernize the consumer experience by introducing 24-hour self-service fueling capabilities.
Unlike traditional stations, these unmanned locations will operate without the presence of on-site attendants. This allows customers to pull up and purchase fuel at any time of the day or night, providing a level of convenience previously unavailable in the local market.
The backbone of this project is Petrosoft’s proprietary SmartPump technology, a locally developed system that meets global IoT (Internet of Things) standards. This system integrates retail automation with contactless payment options and real-time dispenser control.
Beyond just the pump, the stations feature cloud-based inventory and tank monitoring. These advanced systems are designed to track fuel levels accurately, detect potential leaks immediately, and prevent theft, ensuring a high level of security and accountability.
A primary goal of this automation is to increase transparency and eliminate human error. By removing manual intervention, AA Rano aims to guarantee that customers receive the exact quantity of fuel they pay for, thereby building greater trust with the public.
Company officials, including Mohammed Sule of AA Rano and Dr. Joshua Denila of Petrosoft, have described the launch as a landmark for indigenous innovation.
They highlighted that the technology is 100% locally developed, proving that Nigerian firms can deliver world-class solutions to industry-wide inefficiencies.
