Five Children Crushed to Death by Collapsed Fence in Borno

Five children have died and one was injured after a fence collapsed in the Bulumkutu area of Maiduguri, Borno State.
The incident occurred at approximately 8pm on Sunday.
ASP Nahum Daso, the Public Relations Officer of the Borno State Police Command, confirmed the incident during a telephone interview on Monday.
He stated that the survivor is currently undergoing treatment while a formal investigation into the tragedy has commenced.
According to Daso, the command received a report through the Bulumkutu Divisional Police Officer regarding a fence that fell on six children, all of whom were under the age of 16. Five of the children did not survive.
The police command is currently investigating the cause of the collapse to determine if there was any negligence involved.
Daso emphasized the importance of public safety, calling on residents to maintain high structural standards when building and to keep a close watch on their children.
This tragedy follows a similar incident on July 30, when heavy rainfall caused eight buildings to collapse in Maiduguri.
While that earlier event displaced families in Bulumkutu, Abuja, and other riverbank areas, the police command noted at the time that no casualties had been recorded during those structural failures.
