Authorities in Kwara State have taken three individuals into custody following a fire at a home in Ilorin, an incident believed to be arson motivated by religious hostility.

On Saturday, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the Police Public Relations Officer, announced that a comprehensive inquiry is underway regarding the blaze that occurred in the Isale Koko neighborhood.

Official records indicate that the resident, Mrs. T. A. Olorisha, brought the matter to the attention of the police at approximately 10:00 p.m. on January 2, 2026.

The victim asserted that unidentified perpetrators torched her home on the evening of January 1, 2026, while she was not on the premises.

The police statement clarified, โ€œKwara State Police are looking into a possible arson case in Ilorin, with three men already apprehended.

“The Command is cognizant of a viral video featuring an older woman who claims her home was entirely destroyed by fire.

“A meticulous investigation has been launched into the suspected intentional burning of a property located in the Isale Koko area of Ilorin.

“On January 2, 2026, Mrs. T.A. Olorisha informed the Oja Oba C Division that her residence had been set on fire. The event reportedly took place at 7:00 p.m. the previous day during her absence.

“The petitioner stated that she was previously threatened in November 2025 by Alhaji Salihu Saka (63), Alhaji Abubakar Salihu (58), and Alhaji Yekini Olohuntele (67). These threats were reportedly sparked by her status as a traditional religionist. The trio is currently being held for questioning.

“There were no fatalities reported, as the house was vacant at the time of the fire. The total cost of the damage is still being calculated.

“The police department wishes to reassure the public that active measures are being taken to catch any remaining accomplices, and all claims are being scrutinized closely.

“The Kwara State Police Command maintains its pledge to defend the lives, property, and basic rights of every inhabitant, no matter their spiritual or cultural background. Citizens are encouraged to stay composed and share any pertinent data that could assist the detectives.”
