You Can’t Succeed Without Nigeria, Umahi Tells Nigerians

The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has made a strong case for national pride and economic optimism, asserting that Nigeria remains the premier destination for anyone seeking significant financial success.
Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria, the Minister expressed his firm belief that the country offers unique opportunities for wealth creation that are simply unavailable in other parts of the world.
He specifically challenged the narrative of those seeking to leave the country, arguing that the grass is not always greener on the other side.
In his address, Umahi highlighted a stark contrast between the profit margins available in Nigeria compared to developed economies.
He claimed that while entrepreneurs in Nigeria can often see returns on investment as high as 100 percent, businesses in foreign nations typically struggle to achieve even a 10 percent margin.
According to the Minister, many Nigerians who emigrate end up working multiple jobs and enduring grueling 19-hour shifts under difficult conditions, often for far less relative reward than they could achieve if they applied that same level of discipline at home.
The Minister also addressed the “de-marketing” of Nigeria, calling on citizens both at home and in the diaspora to stop focusing solely on the nation’s challenges.
He noted that while many Nigerians are perfectly law-abiding and disciplined when living abroad, they often fail to exhibit that same commitment to order within their own borders.
He emphasized that for the country to reach its full potential, citizens must replicate the resilience and respect for the rule of law they show overseas right here in Nigeria.
Furthermore, Umahi linked these economic prospects to the Federal Government’s massive infrastructure projects under the Renewed Hope agenda.
He pointed to the transition to concrete road technology and the construction of major coastal highways as the “economic architecture” necessary to lower the cost of doing business.
By improving connectivity and security, the Minister believes the government is laying the groundwork for a future where every Nigerian can find success without needing to look beyond the country’s borders.
