Wike Threatens To Spill Details Of Agreement With Fubara

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, has threatened to make public the details of a peace agreement reached with Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, accusing him of failing to honour the terms of the deal.

Wike made the declaration during a recent political engagement in Rivers State, where he expressed frustration over what he described as Fubara’s refusal to abide by commitments made during a reconciliation meeting brokered by President Bola Tinubu to resolve the prolonged political crisis in the state. According to Wike, the agreement was clearly spelt out before the President and other stakeholders, with both parties pledging to work together in the interest of peace and stability in Rivers State. However, he alleged that Fubara has since acted contrary to the understanding reached, prompting his decision to consider exposing the full details of the pact. “I will soon tell Nigerians what we agreed on before Mr President,” Wike said, warning that political leaders who renege on agreements should be held accountable by the people. The political crisis in Rivers State began in 2023 following a fallout between Wike and his successor, Fubara, leading to a split in the State House of Assembly, legal battles, and heightened political tension. The situation eventually drew the intervention of President Tinubu, who convened meetings aimed at restoring calm and ensuring effective governance in the oil-rich state. Although the peace deal initially raised hopes of reconciliation, recent developments suggest that the rift between both leaders remains unresolved. Analysts believe Wike’s latest threat could further escalate tensions and deepen divisions within the state’s political landscape. As Rivers State edges closer to the 2027 general elections, observers say the outcome of the Wike–Fubara dispute could significantly shape political alignments and power structures in the state. So far, Governor Fubara has not publicly responded to Wike’s threat to reveal the details of the agreement.
