King Charles Confers Wale Edun with Commander of the Royal Victorian Order
His Majesty King Charles III has conferred the title of Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (CVO) on Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, in recognition of his distinguished service and longstanding contribution to international youth development initiatives.
The honour, which forms part of the Royal Victorian Order — a dynastic order of chivalry established to acknowledge personal service to the monarch and the royal household — is regarded as one of the most personal distinctions awarded by the British sovereign.
Appointments to the Order are made directly at the discretion of the King and are reserved for individuals whose work reflects loyalty, service and meaningful impact.
Edun’s recognition is closely tied to his involvement with the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, a global programme that supports young people in developing leadership, resilience and life skills.
Through his participation and advocacy, the initiative has continued to expand its reach, including in Nigeria, where it has provided opportunities for thousands of young people to engage in personal development and community-focused activities.
Reacting to the announcement, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu congratulated the minister, describing the honour as exceptional and well-deserved.
The President commended Edun’s commitment to public service and youth-oriented development causes, noting that the recognition highlights values consistent with the administration’s broader vision of empowerment, national renewal and social investment.
The appointment marks a significant milestone in Edun’s public career and places him among a select group of Nigerians to receive a Royal Victorian honour. It also underscores the deepening recognition of collaborative efforts in youth development and international engagement, at a time when global leadership and social responsibility continue to shape policy and governance priorities.
With the conferment of the CVO title, Wale Edun now joins the distinguished roll of honorary recipients acknowledged by the British monarch for service rendered beyond national boundaries, reflecting both personal merit and an enduring commitment to the advancement of young people across communities.
