‎I Won’t Defect with Obi, Assures Otti

‎Abia State Governor, Alex Otti has confirmed that he will not be leaving the Labour Party, despite the planned departure of the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

Speaking during a media chat in Umuahia, Otti clarified that his membership predates Obi’s arrival and that he feels a responsibility to remain and lead the effort to rebuild and reposition the party. While he acknowledged that Obi had informed him of his exit and received his blessings, the Governor insisted that he intends to stay focused on the platform that brought him to power before considering any other political maneuvers.

‎In addition to clarifying his party loyalty, Otti addressed recent criticisms by invoking the wisdom of Winston Churchill, stating that he refuses to be distracted by political “barking” or provocations.

He noted that his primary focus remains on governance and fulfilling his mandate to the people of Abia State, rather than engaging in public spats.

By choosing to stay, Otti positions himself as the primary figurehead for the Labour Party’s survival in the South-East as the political landscape shifts ahead of future elections.
