Tinubu Appoints Rotimi Oyedepo as New Director of Public Prosecutions

President Bola Tinubu has given approval for the appointment of Mr Rotimi Iseoluwa Oyedepo, SAN, as the new Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in the Federal Ministry of Justice, following his transfer of service from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to the Federal Civil Service.

The appointment was conveyed in a letter dated December 23 and signed by Omolabake Mafe on behalf of the Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission.

According to the letter, the decision was taken in the public interest.

Oyedepo will assume the role of DPP to replace Mr Abubakar Babadoko, who is set to retire after completing the statutory eight-year tenure as a director, effective December 31, 2025.

A graduate of Law from the University of Ilorin in 2007, Oyedepo was called to the Bar after attending the Nigerian Law School in 2008.

He brings extensive experience to his new position, having spent more than 15 years at the EFCC, where he focused on prosecuting high-profile economic and financial crime cases.

During his time at the commission, he also served as Head of the Monitoring Unit.

His professional track record includes participation in the Federal Government’s legal team in the high-profile Process and Industrial Development (P&ID) arbitration case, a matter of significant national importance. Oyedepo’s appointment is expected to strengthen the prosecution framework within the Ministry of Justice by reducing dependence on external legal practitioners and promoting a more unified and consistent approach to the Federal Government’s prosecution strategies.

In recognition of his contributions, Oyedepo was honoured as the EFCC Outstanding Staff of the Year in 2014 and later received the Best Financial Crimes Prosecutor award in 2019.

The announcement was signed by Abiodun Oladunjoye, Director of Information and Public Relations, State House, and dated December 30, 2025.
