Kano NNPP Chairman Insists on Legitimacy, Dismisses Ward Executives’ Move to Oust Him

The Kano State Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples’ Party (NNPP), Hashimu Dungurawa, has reaffirmed his position as the duly recognised leader of the party in the state, rejecting claims that he has been removed from office by some ward executives.

Dungurawa spoke less than 24 hours after executives of Gargari Ward in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area announced a resolution claiming to have expelled him from the party.

Speaking in a telephone interview on Tuesday, the NNPP chairman described the action as unlawful and without constitutional backing, stressing that ward officials lack the authority to remove him.

According to him, his position as a member of the party’s National Executive Committee further invalidates the purported expulsion.

“They do not have the right to expel me. I am a member of the National Executive Committee, and they cannot override that authority,” he said.

Dungurawa expressed surprise at the development, noting that he was yet to fully understand the motive behind the action taken by the ward executives.

“I don’t even know them. But time will tell,” he added.

He warned that individuals presenting themselves as party leaders without proper authorisation would face legal consequences, including possible arrest for impersonation.

“We will arrest them for impersonation for parading themselves as leaders of the NNPP,” he stated.

The NNPP chairman also spoke on recent political developments involving Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, whom he had earlier urged to remain in the party amid speculation of a possible defection.

He hinted at a favourable outcome, saying developments since his appeal suggest the governor may not leave the NNPP.

“Since the appeal I made to Governor Yusuf not to dump the party, there has been development. God willing, he will not defect,” Dungurawa said.

His reaction followed a resolution reportedly signed by 27 executives of Gargari Ward, who accused him of creating divisions within the party, instigating internal crises, failing to pay party dues, and making abusive remarks against the governor.

Dungurawa, however, dismissed the allegations as unfounded and maintained that his leadership remains intact.

He reaffirmed his loyalty to the NNPP and its principles, emphasising the need for unity, discipline, and adherence to the party’s constitution.

The NNPP in Kano State has witnessed internal tensions in recent weeks, largely fuelled by rumours surrounding the governor’s political future and a possible move to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Dungurawa urged party members to remain calm and law-abiding, assuring them that all leadership disputes would be resolved through established constitutional processes.
