Amorim Says Time Is Right for Man Utd to Change Formation

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim said on Monday that the club has reached the right moment to change its tactical formation, stressing that the decision is driven by football considerations rather than media or external pressure.

Amorim made the remarks following United’s recent switch from his preferred three-defender system, explaining that consistency was crucial earlier in his tenure to help players understand his philosophy.

According to the Portuguese coach, the squad is now tactically mature enough to handle greater flexibility.

“Now is the right moment to change,” Amorim said. “At the beginning, we needed stability so the players could learn the principles. This decision is not about pressure.”

Manchester United recently lined up with a back four, marking a significant departure from Amorim’s usual setup. He noted that injuries and player absences also played a role in the decision to adjust the formation.

Amorim added that adaptability will be key as the season progresses, particularly with a busy fixture schedule and differing tactical demands from opponents.

United have recorded improved performances in recent weeks, and the manager believes the team can now switch systems without losing balance or identity.

“We want to be flexible and competitive,” he said. “That is what top teams must do.”

Manchester United are expected to continue alternating formations in upcoming matches as Amorim looks to build momentum and consistency in the second half of the season.
