Police Arrest Suspect Over Killing of Abroad Returnee at Housewarming Party in Edo
The Edo State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Amadin Williams for the alleged killing of his childhood friend, Eghosa Osas, during a housewarming party in Oben community, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of the state.
According to police sources, the victim, who had recently returned to Nigeria from abroad, was hosting friends and associates at his residence when an argument reportedly broke out.
The disagreement allegedly escalated, leading to a violent confrontation in which Osas lost his life.
Confirming the incident on Sunday, December 28, 2025, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Command, SP Eno Ikoedem, said the suspect had been taken into custody and investigations were ongoing.
“The suspect, Amadin Williams, has been arrested in connection with the murder of his childhood friend, Eghosa Osas, in Oben community. He will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded,” Ikoedem stated.
The killing has sent shockwaves through the Oben community, with residents expressing disbelief that the incident involved close friends and occurred during what was meant to be a celebratory event. Neighbours described the deceased as peaceful and said his return from abroad had been greeted with excitement by those around him.
The police said further details would be made public as investigations progress, while urging members of the public to remain calm and allow the law to take its course.
Meanwhile, community leaders have called for restraint and warned against taking the law into one’s hands, stressing the need for peaceful resolution of disputes and cooperation with security agencies.
The case adds to growing concerns over violent disputes among acquaintances, with authorities reiterating their commitment to ensuring justice for victims and holding perpetrators accountable.
