Gunmen Kill 2, Abduct Four in Early Morning Attack on Pindiga, Gombe State

In the early hours of Sunday, unknown gunmen stormed Pindiga town in the Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State, killing two residents and abducting four others, authorities confirmed.

The violent raid has reignited concerns over rural insecurity and the increasing prevalence of armed attacks in northern Nigeria.

The incident reportedly occurred around 3:30 a.m., when the assailants invaded residential homes along the Pindiga–Kashere Road.

The gunmen opened fire on residents, resulting in the deaths of 31-year-old Yusuf Mohammed and 28-year-old Faiza Mohammed. Both victims were rushed to the Cottage Hospital in Pindiga, where they were pronounced dead by medical personnel.

In addition to the killings, the attackers kidnapped four individuals, including 16-year-old Zainab Mohammed Yusuf, and the wife and two children of Alhaji Yayaji Abdullahi.

Local authorities and family members confirmed that the victims were forcibly taken from their homes and their current whereabouts remain unknown.

Security forces responded swiftly, with a follow-up operation led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) recovering six empty AK‑47 shells and one live round of ammunition at the scene.

Investigators say this points to a highly organized and violent operation by the gunmen.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State condemned the attack, describing it as “barbaric, cruel and utterly unacceptable.”

In a statement, he expressed solidarity with the victims’ families and the wider Pindiga community, assuring that all measures are being taken to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The governor also urged residents to remain calm, stay vigilant, and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible intelligence.

In the wake of the attack, local hunters and vigilante groups have been mobilized alongside police units to track down the assailants and secure the release of the abducted victims.

Security authorities have intensified tactical and intelligence-led operations throughout Akko Local Government Area and surrounding communities.

This incident adds to a growing pattern of targeted attacks in rural northern Nigeria, where communities are increasingly vulnerable to armed groups, kidnappings, and raids.

Analysts warn that without strengthened security measures and community engagement, such attacks may continue to disrupt lives, impede local development, and undermine public confidence in the state’s ability to protect its citizens.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation, promising updates as investigations progress and efforts to recover the abducted individuals intensify.
