“She Likes Nigeria”: Daniel Amokachi Shares Why His Tunisian Wife Chose Him Ahead of AFCON Clash
Former Super Eagles legend, Daniel Amokachi has shared a lighthearted personal insight into his marriage The former Everton and Club Brugge forward revealed that his wife’s love for Nigeria was the primary reason she chose to marry him, despite her own North African roots.
The couple’s love story is deeply rooted in football history, having met during the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations. That tournament was famously hosted by Tunisia and won by a golden generation of the Super Eagles, which included Amokachi himself.
Decades later, the tournament remains a significant milestone for both his career and his personal life.
Speaking to SuperSport before the Saturday night fixture, Amokachi dismissed any concerns about divided loyalties within his household. He confidently stated that despite his wife holding a Tunisian passport, both she and their daughter would be firmly supporting the “Green-White-Green” against her home country.
Amokachi, who has served Nigeria both as a prolific striker and later as an assistant and interim coach, remains a beloved figure in Nigerian football. His comments add a touch of personal flair to the long-standing rivalry between Nigeria and Tunisia, proving that while the competition on the pitch is fierce, the bonds created by the “beautiful game” can last a lifetime.
