New Mayegun of Ofa-Igbo Pledges Commitment to Community Development

The newly installed Mayegun of Ofa-Igbo Land in Lagelu Local Government Area of Oyo State, Olanrewaju Ola, has pledged to deploy his resources and influence towards the growth and development of the community and the state at large.

Ola made the commitment on Sunday during his installation ceremony held at the palace of the Olofa of Ofa-Igbo Land, Oba Adeboye Oyelowo, in Lagelu, within the Ibadan metropolis.

Speaking at the event, the new Mayegun said he would use his position to attract development to the ancient town, describing the chieftaincy title as one that holds deep personal significance due to his ancestral ties to the area.

“I will utilise my position as the Mayegun of Ofa-Igbo Land to leverage my modest influence, relationships and experience for the growth and overall development of Ofa-Igbo in particular and the state in general,” he said.

Ola noted that the installation marked a call to service and reaffirmed his commitment to contributing meaningfully to the progress of the community.

In his remarks, the Olofa of Ofa-Igbo Land, Oba Adeboye Oyelowo, urged the new chief to conduct himself in a manner that would bring honour to his title and the town, cautioning against actions capable of bringing ridicule to the chieftaincy institution.

The monarch also encouraged Ola to work closely with other traditional chiefs and engage prominent sons and daughters of the town to accelerate development.

“Ofa-Igbo has existed before many developed towns in this state; we want our illustrious sons and daughters to come back home to develop their place of origin.

“To my new chief, I urge you to work harmoniously with other chiefs to form a formidable force that would bring rapid growth to the ancient town,” the monarch said.

Ola, an Ibadan-based media practitioner and community development advocate, was installed as Mayegun, a traditional title associated with service, leadership and cultural responsibility.

He is an associate member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations as well as the Institute of Personality Development and Customer Relationship Management, among other professional bodies.
