Fayose Alleges Makinde Received ₦50bn Support from President Tinubu After Ibadan Explosion

Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has alleged that Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde received ₦50 billion in support from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following the Ibadan explosion incident but failed to fully disclose the development to the public.

Fayose made the allegation while speaking on a television programme, where he criticised what he described as a lack of transparency surrounding the federal intervention said to have been provided in the aftermath of the tragedy.

According to Fayose, the money was extended as part of the president’s response to the explosion, which caused casualties and widespread damage in the Bodija area of Ibadan.

He claimed that although the support was made available, the governor did not openly acknowledge it while briefing Nigerians on engagements he had with the presidency after the disaster.

Fayose further suggested that the funds were not presented as having gone directly into the state’s coffers, a detail he argued contributed to what he considered incomplete public disclosure.

The Ibadan explosion prompted major emergency operations and relief efforts coordinated by both state and federal agencies, with the Oyo State Government rolling out assistance programmes for victims and affected households.

However, the allegation by Fayose has stirred political debate, as the governor has not publicly confirmed receiving the ₦50 billion support referenced in the claim, leaving the matter to ongoing discussion over transparency and accountability in post-disaster funding.
