SGF George Akume Marries Former Olori of Ife, Queen Zaynab

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has officially tied the knot with Queen Zaynab Ngohemba, the former wife of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi.

The union was brought to public light this December following a series of celebratory social media posts by the Dajoh family, who formally welcomed the Queen into their ancestral home in Mbakor, Benue State.

Describing the marriage as “beautiful” and “uncommon,” the family expressed immense joy in receiving the former royal into the fold of the Tiv nation’s leadership.

While the news gained significant traction during the 2025 festive period, official sources have clarified that the marriage is not a brand-new development.

Senator Akume’s spokesperson, Yomi Odunuga, confirmed the union but corrected reports suggesting the wedding took place on Christmas Eve.

According to Odunuga, the marriage has actually been established for over a year, though the recent public ceremonies in Benue State served as a formal cultural home-coming for the Queen.

Queen Zaynab, who was known as Olori Wuraola during her 17-month marriage to the Ooni of Ife which ended in 2017, was received with deep cultural reverence in Benue.

The Dajoh family used the occasion to call for continued support for the SGF from his political associates and fans. In their statement, they welcomed her not just to their family, but to Benue State—the “Food Basket of the Nation”—wishing all Nigerians a prosperous holiday season as they celebrated this new chapter for the SGF’s household.

Senator Akume remains a pivotal figure in President Bola Tinubu’s administration, having previously served as the Governor of Benue State. His marriage to Queen Zaynab, a prominent humanitarian, has quickly become a major point of discussion within Nigeria’s social and political circles, blending the worlds of high-level governance and traditional royalty.
