Gov. Oyebanji Signs ₦415.57bn 2026 Budget into Law

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, has signed the ₦415.57 billion 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to sustainable governance and people-centred development.

The governor assented to the budget on Tuesday, alongside two other key legislative instruments the Ekiti State Revenue Administration Law, 2025, and the Ekiti State College of Technology, Ijero-Ekiti Law, 2025 shortly after their passage by the Ekiti State House of Assembly.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, Oyebanji said the 2026 budget, christened “Budget of Sustainable Governance,” was designed to consolidate the gains of his administration while accelerating socio-economic development across the state.

He disclosed that 53 per cent of the total budget has been earmarked for recurrent expenditure, while 47 per cent is allocated to capital projects, reflecting a deliberate effort to balance service delivery with infrastructure development.

The governor noted that the appropriation bill, which was presented to the House of Assembly on October 10, was the outcome of extensive consultations with stakeholders across the state and aligned with global best practices in public finance management.

“It is worthy of note that this fiscal document is a product of wide consultation with the good people of Ekiti State and prepared in line with global best practices,” Oyebanji said.

He added that the detailed breakdown of the budget would be formally unveiled in the coming days by the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, who would brief members of the public and the press on sectoral allocations and policy priorities.

Observers say the newly signed laws, particularly the Revenue Administration Law, are expected to strengthen the state’s internally generated revenue framework, while the College of Technology law will enhance technical and vocational education in Ekiti.

With the signing of the 2026 budget into law, the Ekiti State Government is set to commence full implementation of its development agenda for the coming fiscal year.
