Delta Police Launch Statewide Security Operation Ahead of Yuletide
The Delta State Police Command has commenced a comprehensive security operation across the state ahead of the Christmas and New Year celebrations, with the Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, ordering large-scale deployment of officers to maintain law and order.
The move is aimed at guaranteeing the safety of residents and visitors, as well as ensuring a peaceful atmosphere for all festivities scheduled for the Yuletide period.
The directive was contained in a statement issued on Monday in Warri and signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe.
According to the statement, the Commissioner instructed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Tactical Commanders to station officers at major celebration venues, leisure spots and strategic locations to forestall criminal activities during the festive season.
The statement said, “Patrol teams drawn from Dragon Patrol, Safer Highways, Quick Response Squad, Rapid Response Squad, CP-SAT and Eagle-Net Special Squad have been deployed along major routes, including the Asaba–Onitsha Head Bridge, Anwai Campus Gate to Illah, Onicha-Ugbo to Idumuje-Ugboko, PTI axis and the DSC Roundabout.”
It further noted that security personnel have also been positioned along key highways such as the Asaba–Agbor Expressway, Abraka–Eku Road and Asaba–Kwale/Ughelli Road, while patrol teams from Abraka, Ughelli and Sapele divisions are covering the Abraka, Eku and Ughelli expressways.
The statement added, “Massive deployment has been made to flashpoints within the Asaba metropolis, including Summit Junction, Inter-Bau Roundabout, Federal Medical Centre Roundabout, Ibusa Junction by Nnebisi Road, Ogbe-Ogonogo Market, Government House Gate, Coker Junction, Ezenie/Osadenis Roundabout, Airport Junction and Federal College Junction by Nnebisi Road.”
To ease congestion during the busy period, traffic control measures have been strengthened at the Asaba–Onitsha Head Bridge, with police officers and traffic wardens assigned specifically for traffic management.
The Divisional Police Officers of ‘B’ and ‘C’ Divisions in Asaba, alongside the State Traffic Officer, have been directed to collaborate with other security agencies to ensure smooth traffic flow and proper supervision of officers on duty.
Similarly, the Divisional Police Officers of Ekpan and Ebrumede divisions have been tasked with securing Warri, Effurun and surrounding communities, while also ensuring free movement around the DSC and Effurun roundabouts.
In addition, the Commissioner ordered the deployment of Marine Police along major waterways to curb sea piracy and illegal bunkering, with special focus on the Escravos, Burutu and Warri waterways, to protect traders and travellers.
Abaniwonda also directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations to sustain continuous “Operation Show of Force” patrols across the state beginning Sunday, December 21, 2025.
While extending festive goodwill to residents of the state and Nigerians at large, the Commissioner urged the public to remain law-abiding and cooperate with security agencies. He reassured citizens of the command’s resolve to protect lives and property before, during and after the festive season.
