Troops Apprehend Notorious Bandit Kingpin Fidelis Gayama in Benue State
Troops of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Wukari, operating under the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have successfully apprehended a high-profile bandit leader terrorizing the Benue–Taraba axis.
The suspect, identified as Fidelis Gayama, was arrested on December 21, 2025, during a precision, intelligence-driven operation in the Vaase Community of Ukum Local Government Area, Benue State.
According to the Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, Gayama had long been on the wanted lists of security agencies across both Taraba and Benue states.

* Crimes: Gayama is believed to be the ringleader of a network responsible for multiple kidnappings and armed robberies.

Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade/Sector 3 OPWS, lauded the troops for their professionalism and operational precision.
He described the arrest as a “significant blow” to the criminal networks in the region.
The Army confirmed that the suspect is currently in military custody and will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for comprehensive investigation and prosecution.
Brigadier General Uwa reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment to sustaining offensive operations to ensure the safety of lives and property in the area.
