NWC Unveils Caretaker Committee for PDP in Zamfara
The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has unveiled a caretaker committee to oversee the affairs of the party in Zamfara State, in a move aimed at restoring stability and repositioning the party ahead of future congresses and elections
The caretaker committee, inaugurated on Monday, is to manage the party’s activities in the state pending the election of a substantive State Working Committee. According to the PDP leadership, the decision became necessary following internal disagreements and leadership challenges that have hampered effective coordination of party structures in Zamfara. The newly constituted committee is chaired by Hassan Muhammad Daudawa, with Muhammad Danbuba appointed as Secretary. Other members include Shehu S. Fulani, Rabiu Illele Bakura, Musa Mallaha, Sani Lasisi Kaura, and Hajiya Hauwa Kulu Makkah. The committee is expected to function for an initial period of 90 days or until a duly elected executive takes over the leadership of the party in the state. In a statement issued by the PDP national headquarters, the NWC urged party members and stakeholders in Zamfara to cooperate fully with the caretaker committee to ensure unity, discipline, and effective rebuilding of party structures. The leadership emphasized that the move was not punitive but designed to strengthen internal democracy and prepare the party for upcoming political engagements. The development comes amid ongoing internal tensions within the PDP at the national level, with factional disputes and leadership struggles affecting several state chapters. Analysts say the Zamfara caretaker committee is part of broader efforts by the party’s national leadership to regain control, enforce discipline, and prevent further fragmentation as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum. Party stakeholders in Zamfara have expressed mixed reactions to the decision, with some welcoming it as a step toward reconciliation, while others called for transparency and inclusiveness in the process leading to the emergence of a substantive state executive. The PDP NWC, however, insisted that the caretaker committee would work with all critical stakeholders in the state to foster unity, mobilize members, and reposition the party as a strong opposition force in Zamfara State.
