The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has expressed deep sadness over the untimely death of Mr. Sunday Olatuyi, a senior cameraman with Advocate Broadcasting Network (ADBN Television) and a dedicated member of the INEC Press Corps (IPC).

Olatuyi, aged 40, lost his life on Saturday, December 20, 2025, following a fatal automobile accident. He was reportedly hit by a speeding vehicle along the Lugbe-Airport Road in Abuja while returning home after the close of work.

In a statement released on Sunday, Adedayo Oketola, the Chief Press Secretary/Media Adviser to the INEC Chairman, conveyed the condolences of the Commission.

“It is with a heavy heart and profound sadness that we received the news of the tragic passing of Mr. Sunday Olatuyi… a committed professional who played a vital role in covering the activities of the Commission.” — Adedayo Oketola

Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, the sixth substantive Chairman of INEC who was sworn in by President Bola Tinubu in October 2025 to succeed Prof. Mahmood Yakubu extended his deepest sympathies to:

* The Olatuyi family

* Advocate Broadcasting Network (ADBN Television)

* The entire INEC Press Corps

A Loss to the Journalism Community

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, also mourned the veteran cameraman, describing his death as a “painful loss.” Olatuyi, a native of Odo-Oro Ekiti in Ekiti State, is survived by his wife, a seven-month-old daughter, and his aged mother.

The NUJ has called on relevant authorities to ensure a thorough investigation into the circumstances of the accident, which involved a Toyota Corolla, to ensure that justice is served.
