Governor Fintiri Sets Up Judicial Panel to Investigate Killing of Protesters in Lamurde
Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has established a judicial panel of inquiry to investigate the tragic events in Lamurde Local Government Area, where at least 10 women and an 11-year-old girl were reportedly shot dead on December 8, 2025.
During a visit to the affected communities in Suwa District, the Governor condemned the killings as “tragic, unacceptable, and deeply disturbing.”
Governor Fintiri emphasized that the panel, which will be chaired by a retired High Court judge, is designed to ensure accountability and transparency.
The key objectives of the inquiry include:
* Fact-Finding: Conducting an independent investigation into the circumstances that led to the shooting of “innocent and defenseless” protesters.
* Root Cause Analysis: Identifying both the immediate triggers and the underlying causes of the violence in the region.
* Justice and Recommendations: Making formal recommendations to ensure justice for the victims and to foster long-term reconciliation and peace.
“The victims were innocent and defenceless women. This should never have happened,” the Governor stated, while urging residents not to take the law into their own hands.
Beyond the judicial inquiry, the state government is moving to de-escalate tensions through the Adamawa State Peace Commission.
The commission has begun high-level engagements with:
* Youth groups
* Traditional rulers
* Religious leaders
* Community stakeholders
The Governor assured the Suwa and Lamurde communities that his administration is fully committed to uncovering the truth and ensuring such an incident is not repeated.
