Electrical Fault Suspected as Fire Razes FIRS Abuja Headquarters

A fire, suspected to have been caused by an electrical fault, broke out at the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) headquarters in Abuja, raising concerns about office safety and prompting swift emergency response.

The incident occurred on Saturday morning at the FIRS building located in Wuse Zone 5. Staff and security personnel on duty reportedly noticed the flames early and evacuated the premises promptly, ensuring no injuries or casualties were reported.

The Federal Capital Territory Fire Service quickly arrived at the scene to contain the blaze, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the multi-storey facility.

Initial assessments by the agency suggest that the fire originated from the fourth floor, damaging several offices and disrupting operations in the affected section.

While the full extent of property losses is still being determined, FIRS officials said that the early detection and prompt response by staff and emergency services helped limit further destruction.

In a statement, FIRS noted that the fire may have been triggered by an electrical fault, but a thorough investigation has been launched to confirm the exact cause.

The agency also promised to review its internal safety protocols and take additional measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Authorities commended the security personnel and fire responders for their swift action, which ensured the safety of employees and visitors.

Nearby residents and workers were briefly alarmed, but the situation was quickly brought under control, restoring calm to the area.

FIRS has assured stakeholders that efforts are underway to resume normal operations, and further updates on the investigation and any operational disruptions are expected in the coming days.

The incident highlights the importance of workplace safety measures, particularly in preventing electrical hazards in office environments.
