FCT Police Deploy 2,202 Officers to Secure Worship Centres, Public Spaces Ahead of Yuletide
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has intensified security operations across Abuja with the deployment of 2,202 officers to key locations ahead of the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Miller Dantawaye, gave the directive as part of measures to ensure the safety of residents and visitors during the festive period.
The deployment is in line with the 2025 festive season operational order.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, police personnel have been stationed at places of worship, recreational and event centres, major highways, motor parks and other public areas across the territory.
She explained that the operation is supported by enhanced visibility policing and intelligence-led patrols aimed at preventing crime and maintaining public order.
“As we gradually transition into 2026, the FCT Police Command remains resolute in its commitment to sustaining peace, safety, and public order across the Territory.
“In furtherance of this mandate, the command has deployed 2,202 personnel across the FCT in line with the 2025 festive season operational order. This proactive deployment is aimed at ensuring a peaceful, secure, and hitch-free celebration for all residents and visitors.
“Police personnel have been strategically positioned at places of worship, recreational and event centres, major highways, motor parks, and other public spaces. These deployments are complemented by increased visibility policing and intelligence-led patrols,” the statement partly read.
Adeh also disclosed that identified black spots, uncompleted buildings and shanties that could be exploited by criminal elements are under close surveillance and will be raided where necessary to prevent criminal activities.
“Identified black spots, uncompleted buildings, and shanties that may be exploited by criminal elements are being closely monitored and, where necessary, raided to forestall criminal activities.
“Tactical units, rapid response squads, and patrol teams are actively engaged, supported by intensified vehicular and foot patrols across the FCT.
“The command is also working in close collaboration with sister security agencies to ensure comprehensive and coordinated security coverage throughout the festive period,” she said.
The spokesperson further noted that Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) units have been deployed to conduct routine sweeps at places of worship and other public gathering points, in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police.
She added that CP Dantawaye urged residents to remain law-abiding and vigilant, and to promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the FCT Police Command emergency lines.
Security concerns are typically heightened during the festive season across the country. The current deployment, the police said, forms part of its annual strategy to secure worship centres, public spaces and major transport corridors during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
