Lagos Rewards 177 Public Servants with Cars, ₦165.5m at 2025 Governor’s Luncheon

The Lagos State Government has rewarded 177 public servants with cash prizes totalling ₦165.5 million and five brand new cars in recognition of exceptional performance across the state’s public service.

The recognition was announced in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile.

The awards were presented by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the 2025 Mr. Governor’s Luncheon held at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Alausa, Ikeja.

The event attracted top-performing officers drawn from Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), as well as Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas.

According to the statement, the beneficiaries emerged from both senior and junior cadres of the civil service.

In the senior category, five out of 99 awardees won brand new cars through a raffle draw, while the remaining 94 officers received ₦1 million each.

In the junior category, five outstanding staff were awarded ₦5 million each, while 73 others received ₦500,000 each.

During the event, Governor Sanwo-Olu also announced the promotion of the Director-General of the Office of Transformation, Creativity and Innovation, Toyin Anjous-Ademuyiwa, to the rank of Permanent Secretary. In addition, he presented ₦10 million to staff of the office for their role in positioning Lagos on the national and global stage.

Addressing the gathering, the governor charged public servants to remain committed to diligence and professionalism in their duties.

He said the recognition of outstanding officers “was a deliberate effort to reward excellence and encourage consistency in service delivery.”

Sanwo-Olu further urged workers to “identify their strengths, continually refine them, and remain committed to high standards,” noting that excellence must be sustained over time.

He added that “the achievements recorded across the state were the result of collective effort,” while stressing that public service remains central to governance and development.

Earlier, the Head of Service, Bode Agoro, disclosed that the 177 awardees were selected from 312 nominations submitted by various MDAs, following what he described as a rigorous and transparent selection process.

Agoro praised the governor for his “unwavering support, leadership, and commitment to the welfare of public servants,” and encouraged workers to demonstrate “a high sense of responsibility, diligence, and commitment to duty.”

He explained that the luncheon marked the grand finale of the 2025 Public Service Week, which featured activities such as medical screenings, fitness walks, donations to children with disabilities, long-service awards, a government lecture and talent competitions.
