Alimosho LG Chairman Presents ₦8.8bn 2026 Budget of ‘Restoration and Renewed Progress’
The Executive Chairman of Alimosho Local Government, Hon. Akinpelu Ibrahim Johnson, on Monday formally presented the 2026 Appropriation Bill to the Legislative Council, unveiling a proposed budget of ₦8,807,431,296.72 aimed at consolidating development gains and accelerating socio-economic progress across the council.
Tagged the “Budget of Restoration and Renewed Progress,” the budget was presented at the Alimosho Local Government Legislative Chamber in Akowonjo.
Chairman Johnson described it as a roadmap for continued infrastructure development, improved social welfare, and strengthened governance within the local government.
In his address, Hon. Johnson expressed appreciation to council members for their partnership in delivering development projects over the past years, emphasizing that collaborative governance is central to translating policy into tangible benefits for residents.
“The council’s progress is a shared success,” he said, highlighting the importance of unity between the executive and legislative arms of local government.
He outlined strategic priorities for the 2026 fiscal year, including the construction and rehabilitation of roads and drainage systems to enhance mobility and reduce flooding, programs to support staff welfare and vulnerable groups, investments in markets and commercial hubs to boost local trade, and logistical support for councillors, traditional rulers, and local government officials.
The financial breakdown shows ₦5.28 billion allocated for recurrent expenditure, including salaries and operational costs, while ₦3.52 billion is dedicated to capital projects targeting physical development and public infrastructure. Specific personnel allocations include ₦1.137 billion for local government staff salaries, ₦530 million for primary school teachers, and ₦213 million for political office holders.
Chairman Johnson also highlighted notable achievements of his administration, including the rehabilitation of Bamgbola and Benstar Streets, construction of Old Ipaja Road and other critical arterial routes, development of public facilities such as CDC buildings, mosques, chapels, customary courts, and advocacy centres, the implementation of the “Ounje Alimosho” food subsidy program, and the distribution of 600 GCE forms to indigent students.
Responding on behalf of the Legislative Council, Hon. Semiu Rasheed Olamilekan, the House Leader, commended the chairman’s vision and described the proposed budget as a blueprint for restoration and renewed progress.
He assured that the council would conduct thorough scrutiny of the appropriation bill before approval, ensuring transparency and accountability in fund utilization.
The budget presentation was attended by the Vice Chairman, councillors, council management, traditional rulers, community leaders, religious and youth representatives, and members of the press, reflecting broad stakeholder participation in local governance.
With the 2026 budget now submitted, Alimosho residents and stakeholders anticipate the continuation and expansion of projects aimed at enhancing social infrastructure, economic opportunities, and overall quality of life within the local government.
