Tinubu Unveils Fresh Military Hardware Drive to Bolster Fight Against Insecurity
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has intensified efforts to reinforce Nigeria’s security framework with a renewed commitment to modernising the armed forces and restoring operational strength across the country. The latest move forms part of the administration’s broader strategy to curb terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes that have persisted in different regions.
The President announced the fresh security push while declaring open the 2025 Chief of Army Staff Annual Conference held in Ojuelegba, Lagos State.
The event, which brought together senior military commanders and strategic defence stakeholders, focused on reviewing ongoing operations and setting priorities for the Nigerian Army in the year ahead.
Tinubu was represented at the ceremony by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
At the conference venue, Nebo Hall, Abalti Barracks, the President disclosed that his administration has approved the acquisition of mine-resistant ambush-protected vehicles and a new fleet of armoured platforms to improve troop mobility and protection in high-risk operational theatres. In addition, over 100 Armoured Fighting Vehicles that had been grounded due to wear and technical issues are currently undergoing refurbishment to return them to active duty.
According to the President, these interventions are designed to enhance the military’s capacity to respond swiftly and decisively to evolving security threats, particularly in conflict-prone areas where troops often face improvised explosive devices and coordinated attacks by non-state actors.
Tinubu reiterated that national security remains a core priority under his Renewed Hope Agenda, stressing that economic growth, social stability and national unity cannot thrive in an atmosphere of fear and violence. He assured Nigerians that the Federal Government is committed to equipping security agencies with modern tools, improved logistics and sustained welfare support to enable them perform effectively.
“There can be no meaningful development without security,” the President noted, emphasizing that his administration will continue to deploy all lawful means and resources to safeguard lives and property across the federation.
Vice President Shettima, speaking on behalf of the President, commended the Nigerian Army for its sacrifices and resilience, urging commanders to maintain professionalism, accountability and respect for human rights in all operations.
He also called for stronger collaboration among the armed forces, intelligence services and other security agencies to address the complex and interconnected nature of Nigeria’s security challenges.
The annual conference is expected to produce policy recommendations and operational strategies that will guide the Army’s activities in 2025, as the government seeks lasting solutions to insecurity and renewed public confidence in the nation’s defence institutions.
