Tinubu Rallies West African Leaders to Unite Against Terrorism, Coups
President Bola Tinubu has called on West African leaders to strengthen regional unity and collective action in addressing terrorism, violent extremism, and the rising wave of unconstitutional changes of government across the subregion.
The call was made during the 68th Ordinary Session of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Authority of Heads of State and Government, held at the State House Conference Centre.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented President Tinubu at the session, delivered the message during the welcome address, stressing the need for sustained cooperation among ECOWAS member states to confront shared security and governance challenges.
President Tinubu emphasized that no single country can effectively tackle terrorism and political instability in isolation, noting that regional solidarity remains critical to preserving peace, democratic governance, and economic stability in West Africa.
The ECOWAS summit brought together leaders from across the subregion to deliberate on security threats, democratic governance, and regional integration amid growing concerns over militant violence and recent military takeovers in some member states.
