Gunmen Ambush in Nasarawa Leaves Police Inspector, Two Vigilantes Dead, Rifle Stolen

A violent attack by suspected armed robbers on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, claimed the lives of three security personnel along the Idadu–Agbashi road in Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

The incident has heightened fears about the growing insecurity in central Nigeria.

The victims, identified as Police Inspector Christopher Enoh and two vigilante members, Mathew John and Augustine Yusuf, were ambushed while conducting a routine security patrol.

The attackers opened fire suddenly, catching the team off-guard and leaving all three fatally wounded before reinforcements could arrive.

Following the assault, the gunmen made away with an AK‑47 rifle and approximately 30 rounds of ammunition belonging to the slain inspector. The bodies of the victims were later deposited at the Agbashi General Hospital mortuary, where forensic examinations are underway.

Authorities have intensified patrols in the surrounding communities in an effort to prevent further attacks and apprehend the perpetrators.

The ambush highlights a worrying trend of targeted attacks on security operatives across the region, raising concerns over the effectiveness of current counter-security measures.

Local residents expressed shock and condemned the attack, urging government officials to improve protection for patrol teams and enhance intelligence gathering.

Community leaders are also calling for rapid response strategies to prevent future ambushes and safeguard lives and property in vulnerable rural areas.

Investigators have appealed to the public to provide information that could lead to the arrest of those responsible, emphasizing the urgency of recovering the stolen rifle, which could be used in further criminal acts.

This attack underscores the persistent security challenges in Nasarawa State, where criminal groups continue to exploit gaps in protection to carry out deadly strikes against both security forces and civilians.
