Peace Key to Kaduna’s Progress, Says Sani

Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has said sustained peace remains the cornerstone of development in the state, stressing that stability has enabled his administration to make measurable progress across key sectors.

The governor stated this during the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Week held in Kaduna, where he highlighted what he described as a significant turnaround in the state’s security situation.

According to Sani, Kaduna has recorded no major incidents of violent conflict since 2023, a development he attributed to deliberate policies centred on dialogue, inclusion and community participation .

Sani explained that his administration introduced the Kaduna Peace Model, a locally driven framework designed to prevent conflict and promote social cohesion.

The model combines early-warning and early-response mechanisms, continuous engagement with traditional and religious leaders, community dialogue, and intelligence-led security operations.

He noted that peace, in this context, is viewed not merely as the absence of violence but as an active process that supports growth and development .

The improved security environment, the governor said, has allowed economic and social life to rebound across many parts of the state. Schools that were previously shut due to insecurity have reopened, markets and farmlands are functioning again, and displaced residents have begun returning to their communities.

He added that thousands of out-of-school children have been reintegrated into the education system, while reforms in the education sector have reduced tuition fees in state-owned tertiary institutions to ease the burden on families .

Sani also linked the state’s growing appeal to investors to the relative peace now enjoyed in Kaduna.

He said stability has boosted confidence among local and foreign investors, supporting job creation and economic activity, particularly in agriculture and small-scale industries .

The governor acknowledged the role of journalists, traditional rulers, religious leaders and community stakeholders in sustaining peace, urging the media to practice responsible and conflict-sensitive reporting.

He noted that accurate information and constructive narratives are essential in preventing misinformation that could inflame tensions .

Observers say Kaduna’s recent experience marks a notable shift for a state that was once frequently affected by ethno-religious and communal clashes.

With peace now positioned as a central development strategy, the Sani administration believes the Kaduna Peace Model could offer useful lessons for other states grappling with insecurity and social divisions .
