NAPTIP Rescues, Returns 11 Trafficked Children to Jigawa Community

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has reunited 11 victims of human trafficking with their home communities in Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

The handover took place on Sunday in Dutse, the state capital, during a formal meeting attended by relevant stakeholders.

The state Commander of NAPTIP, Abdulkadir Turajo, disclosed that the children were intercepted and rescued by the agency’s operatives in Lokoja, Kogi State.

Turajo, who spoke through the Head of Operations of the command, Yunusa Mohammed, explained that the victims were all boys between the ages of seven and 15. He said they hail from Tsaba, Kunkurawa and Tsabare communities within Ringim Local Government Area.

According to him, the successful transfer of the children back to their local government was made possible through the support of the Jigawa State Ministry for Local Government and Community Development.

The NAPTIP commander praised both the Ringim Local Government authorities and the state ministry for their swift cooperation, noting that their prompt actions ensured the quick reunification of the children with their families.

He reaffirmed the agency’s resolve to intensify efforts against human trafficking nationwide, with a focus on rescue operations, victim protection and family reunification.

On receiving the children, the Chairman of Ringim Local Government Area, Badamasi Garba, expressed appreciation to NAPTIP for its timely intervention.

Represented by the council’s Director of Personnel Management, Idana Isah, the chairman assured that the local government would work towards the proper rehabilitation and reintegration of the victims, while also taking measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
