ICPC Recovers ₦37.44bn, $2.35m in 2025 as Investigations, Convictions Rise

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) says it recovered a total of ₦37.44 billion and $2.353 million in 2025 through asset seizures and forfeitures.

The disclosure was made by the Chairman of the Commission, Musa Aliyu (SAN), during the ICPC’s End-of-Year Engagement, which also featured a send-off for retiring officers and the Annual Merit Awards ceremony.

The information was contained in a statement released on Sunday by the Commission’s spokesperson, John Odey.

Aliyu described the recoveries as among the most remarkable recorded by the anti-graft agency in a single year, noting that 2025 marked a period of notable progress in enforcement, prevention and public awareness.

According to him, the Commission investigated 263 cases within the year, surpassing its initial target of 250 cases.

Out of these, 61 matters were taken before the courts, resulting in a conviction rate of 55.74 per cent. “2025 stands out as a defining year for the ICPC, with measurable achievements across enforcement, preventive mechanisms and public enlightenment,” the chairman said.

Highlighting key prosecution outcomes, Aliyu referenced the conviction of Professor Cyril Ndifon of the University of Calabar, who received a five-year jail term over offences linked to sexual harassment and cyberbullying.

On preventive efforts, the ICPC boss disclosed that 344 Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) were evaluated using the Ethics and Integrity Compliance Scorecard.

He added that the Commission conducted 66 corruption-monitoring exercises and tracked 1,490 projects across the country. Aliyu further revealed that Systems Study and Corruption Risk Assessments were completed in 12 MDAs to address institutional weaknesses that enable corrupt practices.

In the area of public engagement, the Commission reportedly reached over 235,000 Nigerians through 644 sensitisation programmes, while its digital platforms recorded about 3.5 million engagements.

The ICPC also established 86 Anti-Corruption Clubs and Vanguards and trained 2,707 individuals at its academy during the year.

The chairman noted that the Commission initiated 15 joint activities with partner organisations, while civil society groups carried out 57 related engagements in support of anti-corruption efforts.

He also announced that the ICPC successfully secured the Cost-of-Living Adjustment allowance for its staff for the first time, describing it as a significant welfare milestone for the agency.
