ADC Launches Nationwide Membership Drive, Sets New Dates for Congresses, National Convention
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has formally inaugurated a comprehensive 90‑day nationwide membership mobilisation, revalidation, and registration exercise, signalling a major effort to consolidate its structures ahead of a series of critical party events early next year.
According to a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, the programme was rolled out following resolutions reached at the National Working Committee (NWC) meeting.
The exercise is being implemented in strict adherence to the party’s constitution, with leadership emphasising transparency and alignment with internal governance standards.
The 90‑day drive is intended to update and expand the ADC’s membership database, ensuring grassroots participation and accurate delegate selection at the upcoming local and state congresses.
Party officials explained that the systematic revalidation of existing members, alongside the registration of new supporters, will lay the foundation for credible internal elections next month.
In addition to kicking off the registration period, the ADC announced provisional dates for its congress calendar. Delegates at the polling unit, ward, and local government levels are scheduled to be elected between January 20 and January 27, 2026.
These congresses are key to setting up the party’s representative framework leading up to the national gathering.
The climax of the process will be the Non‑Elective National Convention, slated to take place in Abuja in February 2026. This convention will bring together accredited delegates from across the federation and mark a strategic milestone for the party as it positions itself for the 2027 general elections.
Officials emphasised that the membership mobilisation exercise is not just clerical in nature, but also a strategic opportunity to re‑energise the party’s base, strengthen its organisational reach, and foster unity among its supporters after months of political realignments.
ADC leadership has invited all existing and potential members to participate fully in the process, providing guidance on documentation and compliance through local party offices nationwide.
The mobilisation initiative comes against the backdrop of intensified political activity within the ADC, including high‑profile defections and strategic coalition building, with prominent figures joining the party ahead of the 2027 poll Political analysts believe that successfully conducting the registration and subsequent congresses will be critical to enhancing the party’s credibility and operational coherence at a time of heightened competition among Nigeria’s political organisations.
For grassroots members and political observers alike, the next three months will be a period of intense organisational activity as the ADC seeks to sharpen its internal democracy and lay solid groundwork for the forthcoming electoral season.
