LASU Bans Unauthorised Skits, Filming After Panic-Inducing Bandit Prank

The management of Lagos State University (LASU) has announced a ban on unauthorised skits and filming activities on its campuses, following a disturbing prank video that sparked panic among students on Wednesday.

The incident, captured in a skit titled “Bandits Prank on Lasuites,” showed individuals dressed as bandits staging a dramatic, commando-style entry into the Ojo campus. The video caused fear and confusion as students and pedestrians fled for safety, momentarily disrupting academic activities before it was later confirmed to be staged content.

In a statement issued on Friday, the university’s spokesperson, Oluwayemisi Thomas-Onashile, condemned the act and expressed concern over the increasing trend of students and visitors using LASU facilities to produce offensive or misleading content.

“The Lagos State University has observed with concern the increasing unauthorised use of its campuses and facilities for content creation activities, particularly by students,” the statement read.

“While the university encourages creativity and responsible self-expression, it has become evident that some of the content being produced is offensive, inappropriate and misrepresents the values and image of the institution.”

The university stressed that the growing practice of filming disruptive or sensational skits poses reputational risks and undermines LASU’s status as a “respected centre of learning and character development.”

The management added that stricter monitoring will now be enforced, and anyone caught producing unauthorised content on campus will face disciplinary or legal consequences.

The prank video has continued to draw criticism online, with many describing it as insensitive amid ongoing national concerns about security. LASU authorities say the ban is aimed at preventing a recurrence and ensuring a safe and disciplined environment for learning.
