Kano Governor Bemoans as Fire Razes Sections of Rogo General Hospital

The Kano State Government has commiserated with residents of Rogo Local Government Area after a fire incident destroyed key sections of Rogo General Hospital, disrupting healthcare services and leaving patients distressed.

The fire, which broke out late Thursday, reportedly affected the administrative block and some clinical units before emergency responders were able to contain it.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, in a statement released on Friday, expressed deep concern over the incident and conveyed his sympathy to patients, hospital workers, and families whose medical care was interrupted.

He described the destruction as a major setback for the community, noting that the hospital serves thousands of people across Rogo and neighbouring areas.

According to officials, no lives were lost, but the damage has rendered parts of the facility temporarily unusable.

Hospital staff were said to have acted promptly, evacuating patients to safer sections of the compound while firefighters worked to stop the flames from spreading further. Some equipment, medical supplies, and files were damaged in the process, intensifying worries about service disruption.

Governor Yusuf directed the Ministry of Health and the State Emergency Management Agency to conduct an urgent assessment of the impact and prepare a comprehensive report to guide immediate intervention.

He also gave orders for swift renovation and rehabilitation of the affected structures so that normal operations can resume as quickly as possible.

The governor further emphasised the need to improve safety measures in public healthcare facilities across the state. He noted that the unfortunate incident should serve as a reminder of the importance of fire-prevention systems, regular safety audits, and modern emergency-response infrastructure.

Community leaders echoed this sentiment, urging the government to prioritise upgrades that would prevent similar occurrences in the future.

In the meantime, temporary arrangements have been put in place to ensure that critical medical services continue without interruption. Mobile clinics and adjoining health centres are expected to support patient care until repairs at Rogo General Hospital are completed.

Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his administrationโ€™s commitment to safeguarding public health and pledged that all necessary resources would be deployed to restore the hospital to full operation.

He assured residents that the government stands with them during this challenging period and will not relent until the facility is fully rehabilitated.
