I’ll Secure Rivers State for Tinubu Ahead of 2027 Election, Vows Fubara
The political atmosphere in Rivers State has been stirred following a bold declaration by Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who has pledged to deliver the state’s support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
The statement signals a major shift in the state’s political direction and has sparked widespread debate among stakeholders across party lines.
Governor Fubara, who recently aligned himself with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), made the commitment during interactions with party leaders and supporters in Port Harcourt.
According to him, the decision is rooted in what he described as the need for stronger cooperation between Rivers State and the federal government to fast-track development and ensure political stability.
He emphasized that aligning with the centre would place Rivers in a better position to attract federal projects and economic opportunities.
The governor’s move has been reinforced by growing support from grassroots political structures within the state.
Chairmen of the 23 local government areas, as well as influential political blocs, have openly declared their readiness to mobilise voters in support of President Tinubu’s re-election bid.
This show of unity is being interpreted as a strategic effort to consolidate power ahead of the next general elections.
Supporters of the move argue that Rivers State stands to gain significantly from a closer relationship with the presidency.
They point to ongoing and proposed federal infrastructure projects, security collaboration, and economic reforms as reasons the state should back continuity at the national level.
Party officials have also described the governor’s pledge as a turning point that could reshape the political balance in the South-South region.
However, political analysts caution that Rivers remains a highly competitive terrain with a history of intense rivalries. While public declarations and endorsements are important, they note that electoral success will ultimately depend on effective grassroots engagement, internal party cohesion, and the ability to manage dissent within emerging alliances.
Opposition parties are expected to challenge the ruling party’s growing influence, setting the stage for a fiercely contested campaign season.
Governor Fubara has called on Rivers residents to look beyond party differences and focus on what he described as a collective interest in progress and stability.
As preparations for 2027 gradually begin nationwide, Rivers State is emerging as a key battleground, with political watchers closely monitoring how current alignments will translate into votes.
With the governor’s promise now on record, attention will shift to how both supporters and opponents organise in the months ahead, as Nigeria’s evolving political landscape continues to take shape.
