FG Boosts Female Economic Empowerment with Launch of 10,000 Women in Mobility Scheme
The Federal Government has officially launched the 10,000 Women in Mobility initiative, a programme designed to strengthen women’s economic inclusion through access to transport-related assets across the country.
The scheme, implemented through the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation, will provide women in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory with vehicles, tricycles popularly known as keke, and motorcycles.
The support is intended to enable beneficiaries to engage in transportation, logistics, delivery services and other mobility-driven businesses.
At the launch and handover ceremony held on Friday, the Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, described the programme as a deliberate effort to open up sustainable income opportunities for women.
She disclosed that the pilot phase in Abuja had already distributed mobility assets to 1,000 women, noting that the project would be scaled up nationwide to accommodate 10,000 beneficiaries.
According to the minister, beyond immediate income generation, the initiative is structured to help women establish verifiable financial records, which could improve their chances of accessing credit in the future.
She explained that the programme rewards commitment and productivity, adding that every level of economic effort contributes meaningfully to growth.
Sulaiman-Ibrahim further linked the initiative to President Bola Tinubu’s vision of building a $1 trillion economy, stressing that women must be actively involved in achieving that target.
She noted that women account for more than half of Nigeria’s population and are already active across multiple sectors, making it crucial to strengthen their participation so it yields tangible benefits for households and the national economy.
