Nigeria Commences Recruitment for 50,000 Police Constables as PSC, NPF Pledge Transparent Process
The Federal Government has officially announced the commencement of a massive recruitment drive for 50,000 new police constables, a move aimed at strengthening internal security and boosting the manpower of the Nigeria Police Force.
The exercise is being jointly coordinated by the Police Service Commission (PSC) and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
According to the PSC, the online recruitment portal is set to open on Monday, December 15, 2025, with applications to remain open until January 25, 2026. Interested candidates will be required to submit their applications through the designated portal once it goes live.
The recruitment covers two broad categories — General Duty Constables and Specialist Cadres. For General Duty positions, applicants must possess at least five credits in SSCE, NECO or GCE O’Level, including English and Mathematics, obtained in no more than two sittings.
Specialist applicants must present four relevant credits along with at least three years of experience in their chosen field, as well as trade test or professional certificates.
Other requirements include being a Nigerian citizen by birth, meeting the stipulated age limits, being physically and mentally fit, and meeting the minimum height requirements set for male and female applicants.
The PSC emphasised that the entire process will be free of charge, warning applicants to be wary of fraudsters and fake recruitment portals.
Officials also stated that the selection will strictly follow a transparent and merit-based procedure, in line with federal character principles.
Both the PSC and NPF say they are committed to ensuring that the recruitment is seamless, credible, and fair, adding that additional guidelines will be published on their verified platforms as the portal opens.
The drive to recruit 50,000 new constables is part of a broader security reform agenda aimed at strengthening policing capacity across the country amid rising security challenges.
