KWAM 1 Submits Royal Lineage Form to Fusengbuwa Ruling House for Awujale Stool
Fuji music icon Otunba Wasiu Ayinde Marshall, popularly known as KWAM 1 De‑Ultimate, has formally submitted his filled royal lineage form to the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, signalling his intent to vie for the vacant Awujale of Ijebuland throne.
The submission, completed on December 8, 2025, comes after the ruling house extended a deadline for aspirants to prove their ancestral ties to the royal lineage.
Under Ijebu tradition, the selection of a new Awujale requires aspirants to demonstrate direct descent from the ruling family. KWAM 1, in his submission, claimed lineage from the Setejoye family unit of the Jadiara lineage, a key branch of the Fusengbuwa Royal House. This documentation is a prerequisite for consideration and allows the ruling house to verify an applicant’s eligibility before he can proceed to the official expression-of-interest stage.
In a letter preceding the submission, KWAM 1 described himself as a “bona fide son” of the Fusengbuwa House and expressed his desire to serve the Ijebu people through the revered stool, which became vacant following the death of Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona in July 2025, ending a 65-year reign.
The Fusengbuwa Ruling House, which is next in line to provide the Awujale, confirmed receipt of KWAM 1’s form.
Chairman of the house, Abdulateef Owoyemi, emphasized that strict adherence to custom and proper verification of genealogical claims is essential to ensure that only legitimate family members participate in the selection process.
However, KWAM 1’s claimed lineage has sparked debate within the royal family, with some members of the Jadiara family unit questioning the validity of his ancestral claims.
The ruling house is expected to conduct a thorough review of all aspirants’ documentation before forwarding eligible candidates to the Ogun State Government for vetting and final approval.
Once the verification and selection process is completed, the new Awujale is expected to be announced in early January 2026, marking the continuation of one of Ijebuland’s most important cultural institutions.
This submission by KWAM 1 highlights the intersection of popular culture and traditional leadership in Nigeria, as well-known public figures seek to participate in age-old institutions while adhering to established customs and legal frameworks.
