President Tinubu Names Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Idris Adamu as Chairman, Military Pensions Board

Abubakar Idris Adamu, a retired Air Vice Marshal from Borno State, has been appointed Chairman of the Military Pensions Board (MPB) by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, with effect from December 1, 2025.

The appointment was officially confirmed in a statement released by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Segun Imohiosen, on December 9, 2025. The Federal Government said the appointment is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen transparency, accountability, and efficiency in the administration of military pensions across Nigeria. The move underscores President Tinubu’s commitment to ensuring that military veterans and retirees receive timely, well-managed, and properly disbursed pensions. AVM Adamu is widely recognized as a seasoned financial expert and a senior officer of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF). Throughout his distinguished career, he has served in numerous strategic positions that have equipped him with the experience needed to lead the Military Pensions Board effectively. His previous roles include Directing Staff at the prestigious Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC), where he trained and mentored officers on military strategy and leadership. He also served as Deputy Director of Budget at the Defence Intelligence Agency and as Principal Staff Officer, Finance, at the Air Warfare Centre. Additionally, he commanded the 081 Pay and Accounting Group, a critical unit responsible for financial management and accountability in the NAF. Beyond his operational roles, AVM Adamu has made significant contributions to the financial and investment arm of the Nigerian Air Force. He served as Director of Finance at the NAF Headquarters and later as Managing Director of the Nigerian Air Force Investment Limited (NAFIL) and its associated group of companies. His leadership in these capacities involved overseeing strategic investments, managing large-scale financial portfolios, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and organizational standards. His expertise also extends to policy and strategic studies, having served as Directing Staff at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, where he contributed to shaping Nigeria’s national security and defense policy frameworks. In his charge to the new chairman, President Tinubu urged AVM Adamu to uphold the highest standards of integrity, demonstrate patriotism, and employ his vast financial and administrative experience to improve the welfare of military veterans. The president emphasized that the efficient management of military pensions is a national priority, as it directly impacts the lives of thousands of retired service personnel who have dedicated their careers to defending the nation Speaking on the appointment, Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations, described AVM Adamu as a highly qualified and experienced officer whose leadership would bring renewed efficiency and transparency to the Military Pensions Board. The appointment of AVM Adamu comes at a time when the Federal Government is intensifying reforms in pension administration, ensuring that retirees from the armed forces, paramilitary organizations, and related services receive their entitlements promptly and without bureaucratic delays. Analysts believe that with his extensive background in finance, strategy, and military administration, AVM Adamu is well-positioned to drive these reforms and enhance the overall effectiveness of the Military Pensions Board.
