INEC Records Over 18,000 Fresh Voter Registrations in Ondo as CVR Nears Completion

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ondo State has announced that 18,045 new voters have been added to the state’s voters’ register between August and December 2025.

The disclosure was made by the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mrs. Oluwatoyin Babalola, during a stakeholder meeting with political party leaders and civil society groups on Tuesday in Akure.

According to Babalola, the figure represents the outcome of the first phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, which began on August 25 and is scheduled to close on December 10, 2025.

She further revealed that 9,290 residents requested transfers of their voter registration within the state, while 2,353 corrections were successfully updated in the database.

Additionally, INEC recorded 3,725 cases of replacement for missing or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), and 1,838 previously unclaimed PVCs were collected during the period.

Describing the progress as a collective achievement, Babalola praised political parties, CSOs, and community stakeholders for ensuring a smooth and peaceful registration atmosphere.

She urged political leaders to step up voter education campaigns, particularly among young and first-time voters. “It is crucial to mobilise eligible citizens who have yet to enrol, and to encourage those who have registered but not collected their PVCs to do so,” she said, adding that increased participation would strengthen democratic credibility and broaden public representation.

The REC reiterated INEC’s readiness to continue its collaboration with political actors to guarantee the success of all electoral processes in the state and across the country.

Civil society organisations also received commendation for their continuous engagement, sensitisation activities, and grassroots mobilisation since the CVR exercise began.

Speaking on behalf of political parties, the Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Ondo State, Mr. Adesanya Olaoluwa, applauded INEC for refining the CVR process and encouraged eligible residents to take advantage of the registration window before it closes.
