Fubara Decamps to APC at Rivers Stakeholders’ Meeting
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and aligned himself with the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a major political shift in the state.
The governor made the announcement on Tuesday during a stakeholders’ gathering at the Government House in Port Harcourt.
His decision adds him to the growing list of political leaders who have crossed over to the APC in recent months.
Addressing the gathering, Fubara explained that his move was driven by the need to openly associate with President Bola Tinubu rather than offer what he described as indirect or “back-door” support.
According to him, “We cannot stand with President Tinubu if we do not openly identify with him. Genuine support cannot be given from the sidelines. Therefore, after due consultation, we have agreed that it is time to join the APC.”
The announcement is expected to reshape political dynamics in Rivers State, where the PDP has long maintained dominance. Political observers say Fubara’s defection could trigger further realignments ahead of future elections.
