7 Women Killed, 11 Injured During Protest in Adamawa
Seven women have been confirmed dead and 11 others injured following a violent protest in Lamurde Local Government Area of Adamawa State on Monday.
Residents said the women, who carried green leaves as a sign of peaceful demonstration, had gathered along a major road to block the movement of troops into the area.
The protesters accused security operatives of responding late to recent communal tensions and allegedly taking sides with the Chobo community.
According to eyewitnesses, the situation escalated when security personnel attempted to disperse the demonstrators, leading to a chaotic stampede in which the casualties occurred. Some of the injured were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Community members say the protest was sparked by renewed hostility between local groups, with residents demanding faster and more impartial intervention from security forces to prevent further violence.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement on the incident.
However, local leaders have called for calm while urging the government to launch a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
The tragic event has heightened tensions in Lamurde, with families mourning the loss of loved ones and community members seeking immediate steps to address security concerns in the area.
