Police Uncover Suspected Illegal Mortuary Linked to Organ-Harvesting Ring in Imo State

The Imo State Police Command has uncovered a suspected organ-harvesting operation in Ngor Okpalla Local Government Area, where officers discovered an unregistered and abandoned mortuary containing a large number of decomposed bodies.

The facility, situated deep within an isolated bush path, was raided after the police received credible intelligence about suspicious activities believed to be connected to illegal organ trafficking. When officers arrived, they found the structure in extremely poor condition and filled with numerous remains that appeared to have been kept without proper documentation or authorization.

Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, who led a team of investigators to the site on Monday, described the discovery as “deeply disturbing” and vowed that the command would pursue everyone involved in the operation.

“We received an intelligence report that this place was being used for illegal activities relating to organ harvesting,” he said. “The owner of the facility has been declared wanted. We are committed to uncovering the full extent of this crime and bringing all perpetrators to justice.”

He urged families with missing relatives to report to the command, noting that forensic experts would begin the process of identifying the recovered remains.

Police sources confirmed that the building had been operating without any form of government approval and may have been in use for a significant period. Preliminary investigations suggest that the operators could be part of a wider network involved in exploiting vulnerable individuals.

The Imo State Government has also been notified, and officials from the Ministry of Health are expected to collaborate with the police to ensure proper handling of the scene and prevent any public health risks.

Residents of Ngor Okpalla have expressed shock at the discovery, calling for stronger regulation of private mortuaries and better monitoring of remote areas.

The investigation is ongoing.
